SAVED FOREVER

I just had to share this incredibly exciting insight from the letter to the Hebrews with you.

Chapter 7 talks about Jesus being a…

‘High Priest who is able to save FOREVER those who come to God through Him.’

In the Old Testament times, God provided certain cities to be a refuge for people who had committed a crime.

The guilty person could go and live in the city of refuge. He was protected by the High Priest.

That is, until the High priest died, and then the cities would be emptied, and the criminal would not be protected anymore.

To God, WE are the criminals. WE are the sinners. The Psalmist says There is NO ONE GOOD. Not One !

That is…compared to God’s absolute Holiness and righteousness. Even our good deeds are as filthy rags to God.

There is nothing we can do about it. We were born into sin ‘even in our mother’s womb’ as  David says.

But we also have a city of refuge. JESUS.

And Jesus, as the writer of Hebrews says, NEVER DIES, therefore we are safe and protected FOREVER.

But if we leave the city (turn away from Jesus) we are at the mercy of those outside the city who want to punish us for our crimes.

And who wants to punish us the most, blame us for our sin, accuse us?

SATAN.

But while we reside in JESUS – ABIDE IN HIM – Satan cannot touch us.

Our High Priest will never die! We will never be kicked out of our City of Refuge. This is why He tells us:

“I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

Jesus is our refuge!

As the letter to the Hebrews says:

“The Lord has sworn and will not change his mind: ‘You (Jesus) are a priest FOREVER.’

That’s why:

“He is able to save FOREVER those who come to God through Him, because he always lives to intercede for them.”

ALWAYS LIVES.

We are SAVED FOREVER.

Thank you for this….The LORD is truly our refuge and our strength! Praise God our salvation is not dependent upon ourselves but the one who has made provision for us through the sacrifice of his cross.

i like how you have put this – have never quite been convinced by “once saved, always saved” because if we can walk into a relationship with God then surely we can also turn our back on Him and walk away but you have addressed that well so as long as we stay in the city and as long as we invite it we have God’s protection… great post!

Thanks man. Love ur blog. Just posted on my facebook wall. I live in Phnom Penh and go out in the clubs to make friends with the girls doing sex work. So many Christians here are like ‘Oh no, we can’t go in the clubs.’ Pleeeease! Like they’re gonna come to us! You wanna catch a fish you gotta go to the river, it ain’t gonna jump in your lap while you’re sitting in church.

yeah i use the picture of the lifeguard station on the beach – people come together to get prepared, do team cheers, get duties assigned, maybe eat and sing some lifeguarding songs but all for the purpose of what happens on the beach – you don’t bring drowning people to the lifeguard station, you get out to where they are drowning and save them there…

Hey!

Hey there. I’m Steve Edwards. I’m an actor, a writer, a teacher and a preacher!

This site explores the meaning of St. Paul’s words ‘by grace we are saved’. I hope it helps you to understand that we are loved by God completely, purely, fully, regardless of our mistakes. He loves us not because of who we are, but because of who He is, and what He did for us on the cross. Amen!

Please explore the hundreds of articles on the different books of the bible, and how the bible reveals that our holiness is a gift from God, and doesn’t depend on us and our good works. Thank God for that!
