The True Magnificence of the Gospel.

If we are in Christ we are free from the law of sin.

Because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set us free from the law of sin…

– Romans 8:2

We are under grace.

If we think we can add to our righteousness by our own efforts to overcome sin we do not yet understand the absolute, true magnificence of the gospel – which is this:

All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God and are justified freely by His grace.

– Romans 3:23

All have sinned.

We are justified freely.

By His grace.

As Paul says, just in case we don’t get it:

Not of yourselves. It is the gift of God.

– Ephesians 2:8

We are righteous because Christ lives in us.

Our right standing before God doesn’t depend on what we do or don’t do.

If we believe we can add by our self to the righteousness God has given us we become, by definition, self-righteous.

But when we understand the gospel we enjoy total, absolute freedom, because at last we realize we can never reach God’s standard of moral excellence by our own self effort and we accept the gift, by grace, in order that we may rest in that grace and reign in life.

How much more will those who accept God’s abundant provision of grace and the gift of righteousness reign in life?

– Romans 5:17

Isaiah tells us that even our righteous acts are as filthy rags.

All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags.

– Isaiah 64:6

Not even our sins. Our righteous acts!

But thanks be to God. Although we can never attain God’s standard of righteousness we accept the gift, by grace, through faith.

Since therefore we have been justified by grace we have peace with God through whom we have now gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand.

– Romans 5:1.

We have peace with God.

Why?

Because of our own ability to overcome sin?

No.

Because Christ lives in us.

This is the true magnificence of the gospel:

He is our righteousness.

– 1 Cor 1:30.

Will somebody give me an “amen” ?

Hey!

Hey there. I’m Steve Edwards. I’m an actor, a writer, a teacher and a preacher!

This site explores the meaning of St. Paul’s words ‘by grace we are saved’. I hope it helps you to understand that we are loved by God completely, purely, fully, regardless of our mistakes. He loves us not because of who we are, but because of who He is, and what He did for us on the cross. Amen!

Please explore the hundreds of articles on the different books of the bible, and how the bible reveals that our holiness is a gift from God, and doesn’t depend on us and our good works. Thank God for that!
