“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.” Galatians 5:22-23
Lord, I pray that our love for each other would be an overflow of our love for you. Help us both to love you with all our heart, soul, mind and strength, and to love each other as ourself.
Help us to make our joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose.
I pray our relationship would be full of delight and laughter and that we would find joy in the simplicity of just being together.
Lord, there are so many little details of marriage and of life that have the potential to cause chaos, fear and anxiety. Thank You that we are able to guard our hearts and minds with the peace that you abundantly provide. Help us to maintain an eternal perspective and to keep our hope fixed on our heavenly inheritance.
Help us to be patient with each other! Especially in times of trial and testing. Help us to remember that neither of us are perfect, we are going to disappoint the other at times. Help us to show grace and mercy, and keep our trust and expectations fixed on You.
Thank You, Lord for Your loving kindness! Please teach us and help us to administer this kindness that you have bestowed upon us towards each other.
I pray that we would do each other good and not harm all the days of our life. Help us to think good thoughts, to speak good words and to show good actions towards each other, always!
Help each of us to remain faithful first and foremost in our relationship with You.
Faithfulness is an area which the enemy loves to attack marriage. Help us to guard our eyes, hearts and minds from his snares, remembering that unfaithfulness in marriage if first and foremost unfaithfulness to the covenant we made before You.
Lord, help us to live in humility with each other. That we would be quick to recognize when we are wrong or have hurt the other, and be quick to apologize. I pray that we would not think of ourselves more highly than we ought, but consider the other better than ourself.
Convict us Holy Spirit when we slip into the pit of thinking that we are more spiritually mature, godly, or righteous than the other. This is another of the enemies tactics that can so easily cause division. Help us to remember that it is You who works in us to both will and to act according to Your purposes.
Show us how we are walking in any arrogance.
Lord, help us to be self-controlled and disciplined especially in how we communicate. Help us to not react out of the impulses of pride or anger, but to bring these under the authority of your abiding Spirit.
