Fix your eyes on Christ!

Don’t you know that everyone who was baptised into Christ Jesus has been baptised into His death?

What are you talking about, Paul?

We were therefore buried with Him…

Buried with him?

…that the body of sin might be done away with…

Wait. What? Say that again!

…that the body of sin might be done away with…

Done away with? What do you mean – done away with ?

Well, actually that’s a weak translation. The word in Greek is katargethe.

What does that mean?

Destroyed.

Destroyed?

Yes. Destroyed!

That’s a strong word – destroyed!

You mean we have absolutely no more sin in us?

You mean all of our sin was destroyed?

Even sins I haven’t yet committed?

Everything?

Haven’t you read Romans 6:7 ? I wrote “Anyone who has died has been set free from sin.”

But, Paul, how can I be free from sin if I still mess up every day? That doesn’t make ANY sense!

Take your eyes off of your self and fix them on Christ. He is your righteousness. He is your holiness. Nothing you do. It is the gift of God. Totally free. By grace, through faith.

So you’re saying, to be holy and righteous doesn’t depend on what I do, but on what Christ did for me?

Exactly! Now you’re hearing the gospel!

WOW. Thanks Paul. Amen!

Hey!

Hey there. I’m Steve Edwards. I’m an actor, a writer, a teacher and a preacher!

This site explores the meaning of St. Paul’s words ‘by grace we are saved’. I hope it helps you to understand that we are loved by God completely, purely, fully, regardless of our mistakes. He loves us not because of who we are, but because of who He is, and what He did for us on the cross. Amen!

Please explore the hundreds of articles on the different books of the bible, and how the bible reveals that our holiness is a gift from God, and doesn’t depend on us and our good works. Thank God for that!
