These are a few of the stories I’ve come across over the past weeks that have both horrified and encouraged me. The chains of persecution many of our brothers and sisters in Christ are enduring is heartbreaking and overwhelming. Yet, parallel with heartbreak is encouragement – encouragement to remember that this is not home; encouragement to live this life fully for the glory of God and furthering His kingdom; encouragement to not fear those who kill the body but cannot touch the soul.
And because of my chains, most of the
brothers and sisters have become confident
in the Lord and dare all the more to
proclaim the gospel without fear.
…Only that in every way…Christ is proclaimed;
and in this I rejoice. Yes, and I will rejoice,
for I know that this will turn out for my deliverance through
your prayers and the provision of the
Spirit of Jesus Christ, according to my earnest
expectation and hope,
that I will not be put to shame in anything,
but that with all boldness,
Christ will even now, as always,
be exalted in my body,
whether by life or by death.
(Philippians 1:14, 18-20)
Let’s not forget to pray for those who are suffering for the gospel’s sake!
