ONCE FOR ALL!

But now, at the end of the ages, Christ has appeared once to do away with sin by the sacrifice of Himself.

– Hebrews 9:26

How is sin ‘done away with’?

Is it done away with by our own ability to resist temptation?

Is it done away with as we say ‘no’ to the sin that tempts us?

Is it done away with as we overcome our sinful desires and resist?

If so, what happens when we fail?

What happens when we give in to that temptation?

What happens when we let ourselves down?

Do we then, by our failure, render Christ’s sacrifice void?

Did Christ do away with sin, and then, we bring it back to life?

Can sin, like Christ, rise from the dead?

No!

Look at the verse closely:

…to do away with sin by the sacrifice of Himself.

It isn’t our sacrifice that does  away with sin.

It isn’t our ability to resist temptation that does away with sin.

We don’t do away with sin when we sacrifice our desires.

Christ did away with sin by the sacrifice of Himself.

He did it.

God knew the only One who could do away with sin was Him.

If it was down to us, we’d have no chance! We’d be doomed forever!

But Hallelujah! He came to save us!

…to do away with sin by the sacrifice of Himself.

His sacrifice did away with sin.

As Paul says –

We died with Christ, and anyone who has died has been freed from sin.

– Romans 6:7

Hallelujah!

It isn’t down to you or I anymore.

He did it for us!

Sin was defeated on the cross, ONCE FOR ALL.

Amen!

Hey!

Hey there. I’m Steve Edwards. I’m an actor, a writer, a teacher and a preacher!

This site explores the meaning of St. Paul’s words ‘by grace we are saved’. I hope it helps you to understand that we are loved by God completely, purely, fully, regardless of our mistakes. He loves us not because of who we are, but because of who He is, and what He did for us on the cross. Amen!

Please explore the hundreds of articles on the different books of the bible, and how the bible reveals that our holiness is a gift from God, and doesn’t depend on us and our good works. Thank God for that!
