‘Beauty Tips’ are my ideas how to cultivate inner beauty.
Beauty Tip: Time In His Presence
Perhaps you know one. One of those women who are so in love with the Lord, so content in Him that it actually shows in their appearance.
To help illustrate this, I want to tell a story about my dear friend, Amy. Here she is in the picture below. Isn’t she beautiful?!?
The Lord has blessed her with 8 children. Before her youngest arrived, the Lord took 2 of those children home to be with Him before they were born. This is a glimpse of the experience during her first miscarriage…
I remember her announcement in our small home group. I remember the joy. I remember everyone praying over her and the new life which God was knitting together inside her.
I remember the tears. The sadness felt when the ultrasound showed there was no heartbeat. I remember clinging to the hope of a miracle, that the life of this child would continue.
Then it happened. I remember the phone call saying she was in the hospital and that the baby was home with the Lord. I remember the tears I shed, not only for the life of her child, but for the pain I knew she was in.
I talked with her on the phone the next day. I remember the peace in her voice when she told me how the Lord never left her side. During the whole experience, His presence was there with her.
So, what does this have to do with beauty?
..glad you asked!
But whenever Moses went in before the Lord to speak with Him, he would take off the veil until he came out; and whenever he came out and spoke to the sons of Israel what he had been commanded, the sons of Israel would see the face of Moses, that the skin of Moses’ face shone. (Exodus 34:34-35)
I went to her house the next day. I entered her bedroom where she was resting. The moment I saw her I remember thinking..”wow…she is glowing”! And I don’t mean the glow women have during pregnancy…this was different.
There was no doubt in my mind that she had been in the presence of the Lord in a very thick and tangible way. As Moses face would shine after being in the presence of the Lord, Amy, in this moment, was shining! Shining in a way that was visible. The peace, contentment, love, and hope extended to her by our God through this seemingly horrible experience was reflected in her appearance. It…she, was beautiful.
I don’t believe we must endure tragedy to experience the Lord’s presence in this way. Because of what Jesus did on the cross, we have incessant access to the throne room. We can spend sweet and precious moments in His presence daily.
What we need, is to chase after further knowledge of who He is! Ask Him to fill us with longing to meet with Him in the quiet, secret place. Pour ourselves into passionate and persistent praise and worship to Him, individually and as community.
When we do this, the joy and peace that fills our hearts and our minds will manifest themselves into our appearance. Then, like Amy, we will shine!
