   Scorch – I’ve been asking this question around and haven’t gotten an answer that satisfies me. Here it is.

   Grace believers (including bloggers) say this: (1) That we aren’t able to sin any longer because we are no longer under the Law which no longer applies. Yet, these same people also say, (2) “I find that the amount of freedom that I experience from this New Covenant actually free me from even the DESIRE to sin.” But what are they even saying by this? If there is no longer any standard by which we could sin even if we wanted to, then what standard are they siting by saying they don’t even want to sin anymore? Is it the NT commands? If so, what are they? There certainly are lots of passages in the NT that exhort us to behave this way rather than that way. Are the NT commands the standard they are siting? I hope my question is clear. Thanks. And I loved your post today, as usual.

      I imagine they are referring to laws regarding sexual sin they have been striving to obey under ‘the law.’ Paul says in Galatians ‘you my brothers were called to be free, but do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature.”

      As Joseph Prince says, God didn’t give us the cross to slap him around the face with it. Yes, we are free. If we keep indulging our lust we will reap its rewards. Yet if we live well we will reap the benefits and, not only feel well, but we’ll be shining lights in Jesus and will lead people to Christ.

      I also love what Paul says in Philippians: “This is my prayer, that your love may abound more and more, that you may be sincere and without offence, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ.”

      Our righteousness comes through Him, yet we are filled with its fruit.

      Amen!
