Grace – We Don’t Deserve It.

The truth is, not every Christian sees GRACE the way some of us see GRACE.

Some say we can still sin as Christians, and we have a duty to God to ‘overcome’ sin ourselves.

We do not.

If we have to ‘repay’ God for the gift of Grace, by being good, or dutiful, then Grace is not free anymore.

It is not undeserved.

It becomes deserved, earned. Worthy is the Lamb… and me!

The truth is, because of what Christ has done, God doesn’t count our sin against us anymore.

In His eyes, we are completely righteous, holy and perfect.

He did it.

It is not about what we do (or then we would all fail).

Look at 1 John 3:9 + 5:19:

“Those who are born of God do not continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in them.

They are not able to sin, because they have been born of God.”

How can this be? We sin every day! Paul lists sin as lust, envy, jealousy, greed, anger… etc. etc. And if we break one, the law says, we break them all !

The point is, we are all sinners and could never reach God’s moral standard of righteousness ourselves.

So God gave it to us as free gift.

The only way He could do that was if there was a perfect offering for sin, to pay the penalty.

The only way that could happen was if God Himself died in our place. The absolute innocent paying the price of the absolute guilty.

Because of His work on the cross, because He laid down His life for us, we are free.

“We died with Christ, and anyone who has died has been freed from sin.” (Romans 6:7).

We have been freed from sin. We can not sin.

Why?

Because we are good now? Because we have changed ?

No. Because His seed remains in us. Jesus. Jesus lives in us and His blood cleanses us from all sin.

Spurgeon said it is as if we are bathing in Christ’s blood.

The moment we sin, Christ’s blood dissolves it, like acid.

It is impossible for us to sin, because we are covered by Christ’s blood.

This is GRACE.

Oh wonderful, glorious, benevolent God.

We don’t deserve it.

Thank you Jesus.

Hey!

Hey there. I’m Steve Edwards. I’m an actor, a writer, a teacher and a preacher!

This site explores the meaning of St. Paul’s words ‘by grace we are saved’. I hope it helps you to understand that we are loved by God completely, purely, fully, regardless of our mistakes. He loves us not because of who we are, but because of who He is, and what He did for us on the cross. Amen!

Please explore the hundreds of articles on the different books of the bible, and how the bible reveals that our holiness is a gift from God, and doesn’t depend on us and our good works. Thank God for that!
