“To him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy— to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen.”
You have to love Jude’s enthusiasm. He really knew the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. He also knew we’re not able to stop ourselves from ‘falling’.
‘To Him who is able to keep you from stumbling.’
Again, it’s not about us, and our righteousness, or our ability to save ourselves – it’s all about Jesus and his power to save us – his righteousness.
Paul says “I consider everything a loss compared to knowing Christ, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ. A righteousness that comes from God and is by faith.”
We can’t save ourselves. We have no ability, apart from Him.
“For without me you can nothing,” says Jesus.
So let’s stop striving to be ‘better Christians’. It’s His power at work in us that gives us the ability to walk ‘as Jesus did.’
It is His Spirit in us that makes us holy. Nothing we do. It is the gift of God.
We are holy because of Him.
The only way we can keep from falling is to know we are holy and righteous in Him and because of him.
Nothing we do.
It is the gift of God.
This is grace.
This is the gospel.
This is the good news.
As the writer of the letter to the Hebrews says:
“We have been made holy by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ once for all.”
No wonder Jude is celebrating! Let’s rejoice with him!
