Those who are born of God can not sin.

‎”Those who are born of God can not sin because God’s seed lives in them. They are not able to sin, because they have been born of God.”

1 John 3:9.

Let’s not water this down.

We cannot sin because Christ lives in us, and Christ is holy.

Hebrews says:

“We have been made holy by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ once for all.”

– 10:10.

We are only holy because of Christ in us. Nothing we do. It is the gift of God. We have His righteousness.

In fact, nothing we can do can make us holy, and nothing we can do can make us unholy.

We have been forgiven of all our sin, past present and future, once for all.

This is why John says ‘Those who are born of God cannot sin.’

“But what does he mean?” I hear people say. “That can’t be true! I sin every day!”

It’s true because, once we are IN Christ, God doesn’t count our sin against us. he doesn’t see our sin anymore. When he sees us He doesn’t see our sin anymore, He sees Christ.

“Not a righteousness of my own from obeying the law,” says Paul, “but that which is through faith in Christ. A righteousness that comes from God and is by faith.”

and

“He became sin for us so that in Him we might become the righteousness of Christ.”

This is why as Christians, as John says, we cannot sin in God’s eyes.

We are holy.

“We have been made holy by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ once for all.”

Because we are in Christ we are totally and completely free.

Does this mean we should trample on this grace and keep sinning? of course not. But realizing this, truly grasping the magnitude of this grace, sets us free from the burden of guilt that leads us to sin. A burden too heavy to carry. So Jesus says:

“Come to me, all who are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest.”

In Christ we are righteous through faith, by grace.

Romans 5:1.

We are completely and utterly undeservedly free.

This is grace.

And if the Son sets you free you shall be free indeed.

Thank you God.

Hey!

Hey there. I’m Steve Edwards. I’m an actor, a writer, a teacher and a preacher!

This site explores the meaning of St. Paul’s words ‘by grace we are saved’. I hope it helps you to understand that we are loved by God completely, purely, fully, regardless of our mistakes. He loves us not because of who we are, but because of who He is, and what He did for us on the cross. Amen!

Please explore the hundreds of articles on the different books of the bible, and how the bible reveals that our holiness is a gift from God, and doesn’t depend on us and our good works. Thank God for that!
