We accept the love we think we deserve

In the movie ‘The Perks of Being a Wallflower’ Charlie, recovering from some kind of deep-rooted trauma, is told ‘we accept the love we think we deserve.’

It’s the same with us. We think we don’t deserve this amazing unconditional love, to be completely right before by God by grace.

We want to earn our place in God’s hearts. We want to prove to our Father how good we are. We want to be right ‘by ourselves.’

But we can’t. If we could, Christ wouldn’t have had to die for us.

It is not of our selves, Paul says. It is the ‘gift of God’.

We are right before God because of what Christ has done, not what we do.

‘You have been made holy by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ once for all.’ (Hebrews 10:10)

This is too good to be true. The good news can’t be that good, can it? Surely!

We accept the love we think we deserve.

Yes, His gift is more than we deserve.

But God wants us, this time, to accept more than we deserve, and accept His Love, and the holiness that comes to us through his son’s sacrifice – as a free gift.

By Grace.

So let’s not reject this amazing gift he has lavished on us, even if it is too beautiful to grasp.

Even if it is more than we deserve.

Hey!

Hey there. I’m Steve Edwards. I’m an actor, a writer, a teacher and a preacher!

This site explores the meaning of St. Paul’s words ‘by grace we are saved’. I hope it helps you to understand that we are loved by God completely, purely, fully, regardless of our mistakes. He loves us not because of who we are, but because of who He is, and what He did for us on the cross. Amen!

Please explore the hundreds of articles on the different books of the bible, and how the bible reveals that our holiness is a gift from God, and doesn’t depend on us and our good works. Thank God for that!
